The collection incorporates Solovair's classic Gibson Shoe with the embodiment of Wood Woods style.
The Gibson Shoe (also known as the Derby Shoe) became popular in the early Victorian era. The classic Derby Boot was worn for hunting and sports but the upper classes required a shoe version to wear with their country attire. The Gibson Shoe was produced and offered a more relaxed style and fit to other, more traditional styles.
Founded in 2002, Wood Wood was established by Karl-Oskar Olsen and Brian SS Jensen offering contemporary streetwear and lifestyle products with a strong skating and graffiti influence. Today they have stores across Europe and have collaboration with over 50 global brands.

Vegetarian Shoes is an award-winning vegan footwear retailer founded in 1990 by Robin Webb, a dedicated vegetarian and footwear enthusiast.
Vegetarian Shoes began as a 100% handmade-to-order enterprise after the founder became inspired by African regions re-purposing car tires into soles. Not wanting to use leather, Robin then stumbled on a synthetic Microfibre material used for yachting upholstery which mimicked the feel of supple leather. Using this new textile, the range of Vegetarian styles grew to include sandals, boots and accessories. With time, orders increased beyond capacity, which led to many British and European factories being introduced to the meet demand to a growing global fan base.
For over 20 years, NPS Shoes has collaborated with Vegetarian Shoes to manufacture the popular Airseal range, which features vegan-friendly air-cushioned soles. These deep tread soles are Goodyear welted for durability and can be re-soled for longevity. High-grade non-leather materials used throughout the Airseal range include Vegetan, which boasts hardwearing, breathable and water-resistant properties. Caring for non-leather textiles couldn’t be simpler - for maintenance, apply a good quality shoe polish or cream using a dry cloth. Read our Shoe Care Tips to learn more in depth guidelines to care for your footwear.
Today, Vegetarian Shoes can be purchased from their Gardner Street store in Brighton, online at vegetarian-shoes.co.uk and through numerous stockists. NPS Shoes is proud to join their growing number of stockists supporting quality footwear to 'cruelty-free conscious' customers across the globe.
The origins of the Monkey Boot design are rumoured to have started during WW2 and over time, saw many adaptations. First adopted by British sub-communities in the 1960's, the Monkey Boot remains just as iconic today as it has always been.
Inspired by sub-cultural uniform, two British brands (Fred Perry and George Cox) collaborated to create an exclusive footwear series. Combining iconic style references with quality craftsmanship, NPS Shoes proudly handcrafted the Fred Perry x George Cox Monkey Boot offering strength, durability and flexibility utilising the Goodyear welting construction method.
Included in the collaboration were two leather styles which were inspired by the original Monkey Boot design from George Cox's footwear archive.
Intertwining contemporary cultural styling, the series includes two styles re-imagined by designer Nicholas Daley. Featuring Mushroom or Deep Mustard shades, each classic Suede design sports a contrast-coloured panel.
In partnership with Fred Perry, the Oxblood Monkey boot was featured in Nicholas Daley's AW20 London Fashion Week show entitled "The Abstract Truth".

Established in 1995, London based designers Fraser Moss and Jimmy Collins borrowed industrial designer Raymond Loewy’s slogan, ‘“you must create your own design style”, in order to name their emerging clothing company. Renowned for easy-to-wear pieces, YMC's inspiration derives from work wear, the football terraces of the early 80s, and American and British military wear. From the uniforms and sportswear they borrowed precision and crisp functionality, and from punk they embraced dark humour and nonconformist attitudes. Prefering to avoid seasonal trends, YMC's timeless designs have been the foundation of the label’s success for over two decades.
Identified by a keen eye to detail, an emphasis on texture, colour and print; YMC follow the Modernist’s ethos that form follows function. YMC provide clothing that is both distinctive, highly wearable are pieces to stand the test of time.
Since 2014, NPS Shoes has collaborated with YMC to produce designs which fuse their contemporary design with traditional British shoe manufacturing methods (see archive styles below). In 2016, all footwear seen in YMC's Autumn Winter London Fashion Week collection were manufactured in our Wollaston factory.
YMC's Autumn Winter 2019 Walking Boots and Monk Shoes (pictured below) were featured in Hypebeast as an example of finely crafted British made footwear. Featuring full-grain leather, both styles detailed a chunkier Soft-Suspension sole without contrast welt stitching for a muted silhouette.
We are proud manufacturers of YMC footwear and continue to look forward to working with the brand for their seasonal collections.

THE 65TH ANNIVERSARY DESERT BOOT - CLARKS ORIGINAL
The Independent newspaper featured an article promoting the 9 best English-made men's shoes. The iconic Clarks Originals Desert Boot (which was previously manufactured by NPS Shoes) ranked at number 4.
In 2015, Clarks Originals celebrated the 65th anniversary of the Desert Boot with a special ‘Made in England’ collaboration alongside NPS Shoes and the famous Charles. F Stead tannery. As the last remaining private-label footwear manufacturer in the UK, NPS Shoes was the logical choice for the Limited Edition collaboration. Manufacturing a total of 1950 pairs, each hand-numbered boot was crafted from the original Sand Cordova Velour suede featuring the distinctive orange midsole stitching.
The handcrafted Anniversary collection celebrated the artisan skills at the centre of British manufacturing, including the traditional stitch-down construction method known as Veldtschoen. Unlike common manufacturing methods where the upper is turned under the insole, with Veldtschoen, the leather upper is turned outwards and stitched directly to the midsole. Advantages of the stitch-down technique include durability and comfort.
Launched in 2019, the Wallace suede boot (part of the NPS Casual Collection) pays homage to the iconic Clarks Originals design. Featuring high quality suede, tonal stitching, waxed flat laces and a natural crepe sole, the design is available in Sand, Navy, Chocolate Brown and Amarone.
